We all have high hopes as to what our kids' first word will be. Dads want it to be "Dad". Moms probably won't admit it, but they want it to be "Mom". Grandparents want "Nan". Cleo and Tank wanted it to be "Kitty". And so on.
This morning Lydia spoke what I am going to hereby officially qualify as her First Word. It was repeated, seemed to be spoken in context, and verified later to be understood. That word - spoken to her Mom while laying back-up on her change table - was... "bum".
Fitting, I'd say, given the number of times we ask her to sit down on her bum each day: in the tub, on her chair, while putting on her shoes and socks, etc. Lydia spent the rest of the morning running laps around the main floor, saying "bum" over and over again. When asked where her bum was, she pointed it out, and thus it was made official. Sorry Mom, Nan.
It has begun...
