...And Then That Happened

Sick of watching (feeling?) all of the heat generated by our pellet stove get sucked out the front entryway, I finally caved and bought some of that insulating shrink wrap for the two side windows framing our sieve of a front door. Each window is patterned, yellowed, and vintage circa 1975, or whenever this house was built - and now they're saran wrapped.

Things are pretty tenuous, despite the relatively tantrum-free installation. Purchased at Canadian Tire, the wrap looks as if it will tear under the weight of a housefly, or a heavy speck of dust, or a particularly evil eye. I'm putting the over/under at say... one week before the project is destroyed. The thin plastic membrane faces many hazards in our household - namely the stumbling toddler, klutzy adults, errant bags of trash hurled down the stairs, ninja mice, and two mentally-challenged cats, with claws (and no regard for the value of hard work or respect for personal property). I'm not optimistic, but then again, I seldom am these days.

Until then, consider our home to be incrementally more energy efficient, at least temporarily.
