Oh, Right

In an unexpected bit of sportsmanship/masochism, I have been asked to remind the internet at large of my NHL Playoff Fantasy Pool victory, which was, I daresay, crushing. I guess the urge to do a celebratory victory lap passed some weeks ago when I had gained a 25 point lead over the competition, each of whom had one or two active players remaining on their rosters. I had it in the bag for a while, and now I do officially. Whee!

The secret to my success: Les Habitants. While the rest of the pool was (rightfully) bulking up on Capitals, Red Wings and Penguins, I listened to my inner, unrealistically optimistic, 11-year old self and took Mike Cammalleri, Tomas Plekanec and Brian Gionta; risky, borderline stupid selections that paid off in spades. And by "spades" I mean "goals and money". Admittedly, it was a move of desperation, having lost access to the top players on the teams I actually thought had a chance. A big dumb hail Mary. So, no, there is no truth to the rumours that the future ghost of James Duthie came to me in a dream and passed on secrets of the playoffs to come - otherwise, I'd have taken Toews and Brier too, and not wasted picks on Vanek and Kopitar.

So, thank you Mr. Cammalleri. If I ever meet you, I'll buy you a beer. Know that you won me back at least $60 I'd already spent.

Huzzah!
