No Big Deal

This morning, for the first time officially, we sent Lydia off to spend the day with a pretend parent. A near stranger. Another mother (etc). And as you might expect, this was met with a great deal of hesitation (fear, nerves, gas) on our part, and confusion on Lydia's...

The sitter's place was nice enough - a spotless townhouse on top of a large hill overlooking scenic Dartmouth. And the sitter herself seemed nice enough - friendly and greying (although I guess there is always the possibility that she is a rat-eating lizard from another planet). And there were enough toys to occupy the kiddies for days. But we heard her crying as we were leaving, and so we both spent most of the rest of the day wondering how hellish things were going, because surely they couldn't be going well. Colour me pessimistic (and terribly unproductive).

But when Terri picked her up at 5:00, the news was relatively positive, although some red, froggy eyes suggested the day was not all smiles and laughs. And so tomorrow, we do the same thing. And the day after that. And so on. Just like most every other parents in North America.

Yeah. No big deal.
