Greetings From Gander

Hey all - I am writing this from the not-as-sketchy-as-feared Sinbad's Hotel in scenic, freezing, small, and... freeeeezing Gander, Newfoundland.

I have been here from just over six hours and I have already:
- eaten a meal of deep-fried cod and scallops;
- saw some freakishly-large Russian aircraft on the Gander tarmac;
- shopped at the local Price Chopper;
- walked out on an impromptu drunken acoustic kitchen party that erupted in the hotel bar; and
- put my rental car off the road.

Stay tuned for some snapshots and more details re: the above when I get the chance. Maybe tomorrow. In the meantime - check out these fun and interesting facts about Gander (the ones that aren't airport-related are the best): http://www.gandercanada.com/explore_gander/cool_facts.htm

Jeez - so you're not wasting any time!!

"Cuban President Fidel Castro once tobogganed with local youngsters on the slopes overlooking Gander Lake."

Who'd have ever thunk it?
