Recent Raves

Portishead - how is it that I never got into this band before now? I recently ripped the first two albums from a friend and yeah, nice.

Heartless Bastards - the band, not a gathering of assholes. See above comment. I would classify their sound as fitting somewhere between Cat Power and the Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Or at least the album All This Time does. First track (Into The Open) - kickass.

My Brightest Diamond - what is it with me and female vocalists lately? Maybe they sound more sincere? less whiney? Who knows? Anyway - this album is great, especially the instrumentation. Her voice gets a little shrill on a few tracks, but otherwise good in my books.

Tennis and Baseball - the sports, not the bands (if there are any named Tennis or Baseball, which would be pretty stupid, but there is a band called The Music and another called !!!, so there you go). I find I am actually paying attention to the highlights when they come across the screen during Sportscentre and not using that time to fantasize about better sports like hockey and women's beach volleyball. What is wrong with me?
