What Does This Say About Me?

I just spent an entire lunch break reading of random iPod play lists of miscellaneous actors, musicians and comedians. The gimmick - the interviewees hit shuffle on their iPods and comment on the first few tracks that come up. Checkit: http://www.avclub.com/content/randomrules.

Maybe I'll do one... *hits shuffle*

Pixies - La La Love You: From the first Pixies album I talked myself into buying - "Apparently these guys are legends, maybe you should check them out" (don't know why I didn't buy the album with the nude chicky on the cover). Silly song with tongue-in-cheek lyrics, sung by the drummer I think, who in the loudQUIETloud documentary was quite the drugged-out lunatic.

Faith No More - A Small Victory: Big single from the best album from a favourite band of mine from high school. Useless trivia: this video was directed by the same guy who did C+C Music Factory's "Everybody Dance Now" (don't know why I remember that). These guys were big into juxtaposition and I think this song is immediately followed by the creepy death-metal/singing-through-a-megaphone track "Jizzlobber". Fitting that this should come on after the Pixies because for reasons I can't explain very well, I connect "Angel Dust" with The Breeders' "Last Splash"; they are married in my mind.

Old Man Luedecke - Mysteries You Can't Even Hide: Mellow music. Really great songwriter, but I tire of the real folky stuff pretty quick - one song at a time for me usually.

Morrissey - Used To Be A Sweet Boy: My wife's uncle had a portable hard drive full of mp3s that he burned from co-workers of his out west. I was able to pick and choose - there was a lot of good stuff on there. I took this whole album because I remember liking "The More You Ignore Me". I have no knowledge of this song in particular - I don't think I've ever listened to it before, which is also the case for about 30% of the shit on my iPod.

Wilco - I Am Trying To Break Your Heart: November 29th. Supporting Neil Young. Halifax Metro Centre. My head will explode.
