Friends, what is the greatest song to come out of Canada in the 1980s? Go For Soda? Safety Dance? Something by Bryan Adams? Doug & The Slugs? David Effing Wilcox?
Please.
Peoples, I submit to you: 54-40's "One Day In Your Life", which can be found in video form here (which I can't embed for some reason 'r another): http://www.spike.com/video/54-40-one-day-in/2790488...
It's kind of cheesy, yes, but it's also ten miles of warm, fuzzy, trumpet goodness. I listen to this song with rose-coloured, um, headphones, and in my mind I am slurping sugary cereal in front of Stan The Man or Samantha Taylor, soaking in radiation and, I dunno, loving Peanuts and Garfield. Happy stuff.
The video is also pure Canadiana - check out the boots, and the sweaters, and all of the Vancouver/Stanley Park footage. 54-40 haven't aged particularly well, I'll grant you, but this song is still aces.
IMO.
