(Call It) A Comeback

Hey all - welcome back. Things have been fairly busy with me and the fam recently - parenting, summering, renovating, dining, movie renting, leading international coups, etc - and thus, I obviously haven't been giving La Blog the attention it deserves. So now to catch up.

In the queue that has been amassing for what looks to be about a week now, I have a handful of half-thoughts and semi-formed blog entries. Instead of taking the time to hash them all out into what I would consider fully-formed entries (but most might still consider less than complete), I will dump them all into one rambling, scatter-shot post. This post:

1) Is taste genetic? Yesterday I found myself having a single barbequed cheeseburger with a side fistful of chips for lunch. While it is true that these items were basically my only lunch options, it is also true that I would likely have had the same meal if there was a fridge full of options at my disposal. Because I like cheeseburgers and chips? Probably. Or because I used to see my Dad eat the same, or similar, lunch most days in the summer when my mother was working? Related, Terri's reaction when she caught Lydia dipping cheese into her yogurt - "she's certainly your daughter". So - is food preference and/or the urge to dip foods into other foods a genetic pre-disposition? I have evidence to strongly suggest that it is...

2) Muffin shopping. I just hummed and hawed for an awkwardly long amount of time over a rather unappetizing-looking muffin in the cafeteria lineup. There were several people waiting behind me, and I wasn't that hungry, but I was still drawn to the lone muffin on the counter out of habit. "Blueberry" said the cashier, to which I replied, "yup". And then I bought it - out of fear that my putting it back would be seen as a slight on the quality of the cafeteria's baking, as well as make me look cheap. Not surprisingly, it wasn't very good. Some might find this story telling. Some might find my telling of this story telling. Either way, I have no idea what it means, if anything, which others may also find telling...

3) Hurricane season/vacation season. This weekend Terri and I have a room booked at Trout Point in Yarmouth, which we booked with our Rewards Points. I have been looking forward to this trip for weeks - the place is a 5-star "eco-resort" that we would certainly not have been able to afford without our Points. Well, come to find out that Hurricane Earl may wallop Nova Scotia this weekend - just in time for our trip! Yay. So, will our trip be post-poned due to weather? Or will vacationing through a hurricane at a remote, 5-star eco-resort be more/less fun than relaxing in boring old non-life-threatening weather. We'll see...

4) Date Night. Watched it. Liked it. Laughed at it. Sex robots. Critics be damned. Either my tastes are slipping, or I've just reached that point on my life. Or I was drunk. Or all of the above...
