Saved By Television

This weekend could have been all kinds of shitty (see pics below). And while it pretty much was - between pulling my hair out over insurance deductibles and making up for lost time at work and the relentless hummmmm of the industrial blue dehumidifiers running in my basement and the general ugliness of the suburban spring thaw - what I'm trying to say is that it could have been much, much worse.

What made it less brutal than it could have been? Aside from the usual family cuteness, there was the television. Specifically DVR'd television. More specifically, the last half-dozen episodes of Community.

This show basically had me hooked from the second episode montage set to Aimee Mann's Wise Up, but as of the Christmas episode and most recently, the naked pool game set to Werewolves Of London - this my new favourite show that is not called Lost. The AV Club has Community pegged to follow in Arrested Development's footsteps as the next great sitcom (TM) and, while I don't watch a whole lot of episodic television these days, I'd have to agree (although, as noted, I have little to compare it to).

While I'm not smart and eloquent enough to pen a long essay on the therapeutic properties of television, I will say that when I needed distraction this weekend, TV really stepped up. Thanks TV *hug*.
