Lydia Log: A Brief Study In Contrasts

As Lydia continues to age, she continues to get larger in size, and so too does her vocabulary. I believe that in this dimension, all of this is considered normal and expected (phew). As of yesterday, Lydia's list of words includes "bib", "bus", "baby", "bum", "Nan", "yes", "Mum" and "Dad". In addition to this, she can do bang up impressions of owls, dogs, cats, monkeys, snakes and lions. And further, at the risk of this sounding like an eConnect ad, she now enjoys playing outdoors, helping you do whatever it is you are doing (cooking, unloading the dishwasher, feeding the pets, loading the pellet stove, etc.), pretending to feed her dolls, being read to, and laying blankets and towels on the floor and then rolling around on them with her with feet up in the air, giggling.

Conversely, as I continue to age, it appears I am shrinking. Potentially due to a recent, and recently-documented, bout with the stomach flu - today I weigh 5-8 pounds less than I did a week ago. Another contributor to the incredible shrinking Aaron phenomenon may be my canceled gym membership, a subtle reduction in physical activity, and a growing habit of replacing heavy late afternoon snacking with more coffee. This is not positive.

Further, as I age my vocabulary seems to be shrinking as well - or at least my ability to recall words on demand, say, in the middle of a spoken sentence. I've been doing a lot of "ummm"-ing and snapping of fingers lately, and just this morning my feeble mind was not able to relay the word "acceptable" to my tongue. Conclusion: I need to sharpen up, do more Crossword and Sudoku, and/or get more sleep before the onset of mid-30s senility is fully upon me and I forget how to drive, or worse. I'm on a slippery slope here.

As for the other stuff, well, I too enjoy the odd 'laying blankets and towels on the floor and then rolling around on them with with my feet up in the air, giggling' session. Who doesn't?
