Re: Personality

And then some.

Having become an expert crawler and chair-supported upright stander, Lydia has started to focus on her social development. She seems to recognize lots o' words - "Mom", "Dad", "cereal", "kitties", and possibly "no" - and has been communicating back in her own unique ways, most recently and notably by throwing her head back and letting loose with an extended, high-pitched, resigned sigh/squeal; the air from her lungs struggling to engage her still-developing vocal chords. Dadadadadadada. Batabadatatatata. Etc.

At a local playgroup she has been attending (probably a big catalyst for many of these recent developments), I'm told she likes to chase down other babies and toddlers, mimic their actions, and touch their faces with her extended E.T. finger. Already she is ten-times more social than her Dad.

And then as of last night, Lydia has started "dancing" - pulling herself to standing in front of the speaker, slapping her hands down on the table, wiggling her bum, shaking her legs, and making Stevie Wonder-type head rolls. However, more remarkable in my mind was that this dancing all started when Lydia recognized Cat Steven's "Here Comes My Baby" from the iPod shuffle (a track to which Terri and Lydia routinely dance) and burned into the other room to start her performance. Music recognition already - Daddy is so proud! Now to teach her the classics (see long list below)... Terri can work on the dancing.
