Mad Men

Terri and I are on episode four, of season one, of this particular program. So far I was most impressed with the first episode, but eps two and three haven't really grabbed me. My likes - all of the ad talk and pitch sessions, and most of the rest of the scenes in the office. I like the new secretary character, and the dynamic between the sleazy Campbell character and the main guy, Don.

My dislikes - anything relating to their home life, his mistress, and his relationship with the millionaire department store woman outside of the first episode. Also, every scene so far has been carefully designed to point out how different life was back in 1960: kids not wearing seat belts, neighbors smacking kids in the face, the OBG smoking in his office, etc. I love the social commentary aspects of the program, especially the treatment of women in the office, but a lot of these peripheral scenes feel unnecessary.

Then again, we've only seen three full episodes so far. What I'm saying is: I'm prepared to have Mad Men-related discussions with the rest of the developed world now.

EDIT: nevermind. Shows 4 and 5 are awesome...
