First it was the teething, or what we thought was teething, and then - somewhere during the whole "teething" fiasco - came the ear infection. According to Dr. Walk-in Clinic, some minor amounts of fluid may be building up behind Little Miss's eardrum and this may be causing her some discomfort, but not enough to warrant any kind of prescription so y'know, deal with it. Enter frazzled and stressed out Mom and Dad, with teeth clenched and fingers crossed, who are set to board a plane with baby for the first time this Wednesday. Dum-dum-dummm.
Sleep has been fleeting for all, and bookended by seemingly-endless stretches of frantic screaming and crying (although in reality these fits are closer to 20 minutes, but 20 minutes of hearing
your any baby scream feels like an eternity; about the equivalent of 3-hours of a warbling Celine, or a few days of that dial-up modem squelch). Our reference books seem to contradict one another, or direct us to make judgment calls we are clearly not experienced enough to make, so we have collectively been stumbling around trial and error-like (mostly error). Yes, this is as close to my teenage pessimistic view of parenthood as we've come yet, but I'm probably just being overly dramatic because today and yesterday have been pretty bad (by our standards).
But when she's up and at 'em, she's as active and personable and smiley and giggly as ever. She is pretty liberal with her two-toothed smile, flashing it at anyone who makes the effort to peek in her general direction. She can now sit up on her own, only occasionally tumbling headlong into a pile of hard plastic toys when she gets really tired. She's eating fish and chicken and mango and watermelon, and we've even tried to introduce Cheerios and rice crackers into her diet - but these seem to be the only items in the house that she doesn't place directly into her mouth (see: books we are trying to read to her, the hat on my head, my fingers, my coffee mug, um, the cat).
So the adventure continues! Stay tuned for more positive posts.
EDIT: sleep found.
