Where I work there are a lot of questions asked - either by the curious small-talkers or the stressed-out looking for support and direction. These questions are lobbed like softballs, often indiscriminately at an office full of bat-wielding engineers, some of whom are more likely than others to step up to the plate and take a swing...
Funny thing about engineers is that most will have an answer to almost any question - how remotely close it is to being correct is usually a complete mystery, but is delivered with such confidence and authority that it scarcely matters to the guy asking the question. To continue this pitcher/batter analogy a bit further - they will come nowhere near hitting the ball, but swing with so much effort that through sheer force of will they often fludder off a foul. You might even forget what the question was. Or that you had even asked a question. Or...
Were we talking about baseball or something?
