Do you like Smog? Do you like Low? How about Morphine and My Brightest Diamond? If you do, and can imagine what a collaboration between these artists might sound like, and this appeals to you, then you should like Breathe Owl Breathe. It is low-fi, quirky folk-type music, with lots of brushed drums, cello, and lyrics about glaciers and er, saber-toothed tigers. Consider it recommended. Each month I have 50 songs to download from eMusic with my subscription, which, frankly, is more than I can really absorb or listen to in any meaningful way. Most months I struggle to find artists or albums that I am genuinely excited about, and end up downloading something more or less randomly to meet my monthly quota. Often these albums are given the obligatory once over, then filed away into the deepest darkest digital recesses of my Pod, surfacing periodically in a shuffle or a Genius playlist. Every now and then however, a gem such as this - or Samamidon, or Snowden - is unearthed, and my faith in the process is restored, or rather, the cost of my subscription is justified.
