Coulda Been So Beautiful
Inspired by the Wizard of Oz / Dark Side of the Moon sync-up back in 1997 or so, I had tried to convince a friend to help me compose something similar for Wallace & Gromit’s The Wrong Trousers, which I had recently obtained on VHS. I thought I was being so clever, and I was dead serious – this would be so funny and fantastic and in no way inhibited by my own limited musicianship or lack of resources. And then we sat down with our guitars and noodled around along with the movie, and it became clear in literally seconds that this would go nowhere. Apparently Pink Floyd had the entire Oz film transcribed onto a continuous sheet of paper that wrapped around their studio a number of times, on which they composed their music. I think I knew this but, in my (perhaps drunken) enthusiasm, chose to ignore it. Like many of my questionable ideas that were squashed by a lack of planning, understanding, talent and sobriety, it is probably for the best that this retarded idea did not progress any further.
