Summerhood
All of the children
were better actors than the
self-appointed star
Haikus are limiting. I didn't even get a chance to say how much the writer/director/producer/star owed to Kevin Smith, both in his crudeness and his ability to tell lots of dirty jokes and write witty banter but not tell a decent story. Well, that's not entirely true - the kids-at-camp storyline was great, funny, and surprisingly well-acted. The storyline revolving around the Ryan Reynolds-meets-Ben Stiller writer/director/producer/star as super-cool-camp-slacker-hero was pretty unnecessary. I hope they edit this story from the final cut. I find this to be the case with a lot of independent movies - the writer/director/star/everything else usually writes themselves to be the moral centre or pinnacle of maturity/coolness/intelligence/sexiness for the movie. Kind of arrogant, but I would likely fall into the same traps - I do have a personal blog after all...
Despite all of this, I still thought the movie was pretty good. And local to boot.
(I know - too many hyphens!)
