Quebec, Congrats, Status and Whatnot

It’s 7:45 and we just left an A&W in Fredericton – just over six hours into the ten-hour drive from Quebec City to home in Cole Harbour. The wind is blowing our Echo around the highway like a sail; my backfat gripping the car seat while the rest of my body violently jerks back and forth. We just heard on the radio that Canada lost a heartbreaker to Russia (boo) but we also managed to catch a CBC audio feed of the Pens/Flyers game this afternoon around Grand Falls (yay). The iPod is shuffling. My bloated belly is groaning. Terri is keeping us on the road - destined for home to feed the kitties - and away from the rumoured roaming herds of killer moose.

We wuz in the beautiful nation of Quebec this past weekend for the lawfully wedded union of Alexander and Cynthia (congrats! again), which went off without a hitch, except for the dinner menu pamphlets comically and mistakenly congratulating Cynthia on her marriage to some random guy named Terence. The reception “kissing game” required the audience to relate a funny or interesting story about the bride or groom in the form of a haiku poem. Led by Sandy’s drunken dancing siblings, this worked far better than anyone had anticipated, or hoped (awesome – I wish I could remember some)…

I was on reception photo duty for the event, requiring me to blind tables full of strangers with my gigantic flash from 1971. I REALLY hope these turn out - for everyone involved - so that the bride/groom will have decent photos documenting their big day, and also so that no one will discover how dependent I really am on Photoshop to fix up my levels and framing. Fingers crossed…

It was great to see everyone again – drinking on the rooftop, shopping on the strip, composing poetry over a ridiculously good meal, catching the game over a few pints and er, crème brule…

Here are a few of the shots I managed to sneak with my digital. Unfortunately and embarrassingly, I never did manage to grab one of the bride and groom…
