Hayden, Halifax, 2-Feb-2008

This concert was in a church, where the sound was perfect, the audience was quiet and attentive and appreciative, the sight lines were clear, and the seats were hard and wooden. Hayden (this would be the fourth time I've seen him play) was happy, charming and funny. He stopped mid-song at least four times, called himself on his own mistakes, chuckled to himself after a 10-second post-set break, and played incredibly. New songs (Lonely Security Guard, etc.). Old songs (Stem). Songs I had forgotten about (Trees Lounge). Lyrics were reworked "to avoid creepiness" (Bad As They Seem). Guitar songs were reworked for piano (Bass Song). And the night ended with a wonderful sing-along (Carried Away).

It was a great night.
