Heroes For Ghosts

Re: Pink Floyd's 'Wish You Were Here'...

I first heard this song through an open classroom window back in junior high school. A few hairy and white-sleeved dudes from the high school, dating some girls at my junior high, were blaring it from their truck stereo in the parking lot. Our poor frustrated teacher eventually stormed back to close the window, but not before I heard...

I last heard this song on the radio this morning. After growing tired of hearing Don Connelly deservedly rake a couple of young, rhetoric-spewing, transplanted Upper Canadian go-getters over the coals for, well, being rhetoric-spewing, transplanted Upper Canadian go-getters, aiming to start up their own "next generation organization", like a sexy branch of the Freemasons, to insert themselves into the Old Boy's clubs of Halifax. Or something like that. Anyway, I switched channels and there it was...

Based on the title of the song alone, I included it on a mix tape for Terri when she moved to Newfoundland for a co-op work position - making it the most romantic song about a drugged-out lunatic ex-bandmate ever (in my books). If I recall, also included on this tape, for a similar reason, was the Violent Femmes' 'Please Don't Go'...

It's pretty easy to play on guitar, and especially great when you're first learning to play because it sounds so cool...

When listened to in sequence with 'Welcome To The Machine', it sounds like the greatest song ever recorded...
